Failure to clean the clothes dryer in your home is the leading cause of home clothes dryer fires. In just two minutes, a fire can become life-threatening. In five minutes a residence can be engulfed in flames.
A few clothes dryer safety do’s and don’ts:
Do’s
- Make sure the outlet and plug are properly connected
- Keep the area around the clothes dryer free of items that can burn
- Clean the filter before and after each use
- Don’t forget to clean the back of the dryer where lint can build up.
Don’t’s
- Don’t leave a clothes dryer running if leave home or when you go to bed.
- Don’t dry items that have come into contact with anything flammable like alcohol, cooking oils or gasoline. Dry them outdoors or in a well-ventilated room, away from heat.
- Don’t dry anything containing foam, rubber or plastic. example: do not place a bathroom rug with a rubber backing in the dryer
- Don’t overload the dryer.
