Locating and learning about the water meter is one way to potentially locate or stop a problem

First and foremost, learning to read the water meter is an important step because it can warn of silent water leaks. It can be as simple as turning off all the water (don’t forget things that fill such as toilets, hot water heaters, and ice makers), and jot down all of the numbers on the meter. Learn the average, normal usage. Next, locate the flow indicator gauge, it is the black or red dial. If that dial is moving while all the water off, then water is leaking somewhere.
